We make Woodland Style Flutes...

2 Bears Flutes creates woodland style flutes along with flute wraps and bags. Made in Oregon by Tony and Cathy Francis, these quality instruments will “hook” you even if you have never had musical training just like they hooked Tony some years ago.

Made from a variety of woods including exotic ones, each flute has its own character due to the different qualities these woods impart.  As Tony remarks, they each “sing differently.”

Yes, you too, can play these!

Tony and Cathy’s first live contact with the Native American flute was in the late 1990’s while visiting the Clackamas County Fair in Canby, Oregon, located just south of Portland.  Hearing the haunting sound of a flute coming from the outdoor stage area, they went to investigate and found Wayne Gardner playing the flute in the Northern Ute style.  They bought Wayne’s cassette tape and Tony played it so often, it literally wore out!

In 2004 while in Jackson, Wyoming, they saw some High Spirits flutes.  Like many people, Tony picked one up and although he had no musical training, he “discovered” he could make music with it.  The store owner asked if he was a flute player and he replied, “I am now!”   That flute became the first of many that he would own.

After having bought several Quiet Bear flutes, Tony felt the urge to make one of his own.  After researching information about flute making and then making some prototypes on his own, he was fortunate enough to meet Bill Hughes of Utah Flutes and Dwight Lind of Quiet Bear Flutes.  Tony learned much about technique from Bill who encouraged him to keep going.  With the guidance of his now good friend Dwight Lind, the business 2 Happy Bears Flutes was born.

Satisfies the Soul

Tony swears no instrument has touched his soul like the Native American flute.  He is not alone.  The popularity of owning one’s own flute is spreading as more people find it a relaxing way to step out of the hustle and bustle of our modern everyday lives for awhile.
