About our Flutes...

At 2 Happy Bears we make Native American style flutes and rattles, two of the oldest known musical instruments in the World.  We make flutes to play “Sounds for the Soul and Songs from the Heart”.

The Native American flute is an instrument anyone can play.  You do not have to read music - you simply play what you feel.  Young Native American braves used the flutes as a means of expression.  Though they may have had difficulty expressing their feelings of admiration or love for a young maiden, they could express those feelings with the soulful music of their flutes.  The brave would play the flute and hope the maiden would hear and respond to the sounds of the flute.

2 Happy Bears Flutes makes flutes from domestic and exotic woods.  Each flute is individually crafted and finished by hand.  Each piece of wood is chosen for its characteristics of grain and color.  We tune each flute to the pentatonic scale at 72 degrees.  What does this mean?  The Pentatonic scale consists of the black keys on the piano, the 72 degrees refers to the temperature.  The flutes are tuned at 72° because usually people play at room temperature. Because of the physics of expansion and contraction, these flutes play sharp in high temperatures and flat in cold temperatures.  Tuned at 72°, if they play sharp, all the notes should play sharp and if they play flat, all the notes should play flat.  If you would like to know more about how we tune our flutes and the pentatonic scale, you can find more information at http://www.flutetree.com.
